Plastics in Art
Friday, August 6
9 am – 12 pm (meets once)
Use plastic to make functional art and jewelry. We will make a bowl, bracelet and charms.
$25 ($20 + $5 materials)

Needle felting
Tuesday, August 10
9:30 am – 11:30 am
Learn the basics of needle felting while making a ladybug pin to wear or pin cushion.
$32 ($20 + $12 materials)

Painting Expressive Landscapes
Monday - Wednesday, Aug. 16-18
1:30 - 3:30 pm
Work with artist April Mehls to lean about watercolor painting. Create a watercolor underpainting with pastel over the underpainting. The technique creates a beautiful effect. Class meets 3 times.
$70 $60 + $10 materials)

Painting on Silk
Saturdays, August  14 and 21
9:30 am – 12:30 pm (meets twice)
The class will work in two methods of painting on silk; an expressive water colour method and a more controlled style in the French inspired “Serti” method which uses a resist to create shapes for painting within. Participants will complete 1-2 usable objects.
$68 (+ materials fee payable to instructor)

Selling and Publishing Your Book
Saturday, August 7
9 am – 5 pm
If you’ve got a book idea growing inside you – or a finished manuscript ready for publication – this class will give you the information you need to get your book published and promoted. It’s designed for writers of all types of books. By the end of the class, you will be well equipped to make your way through the often confusing maze of American book publishing – and to give your book its best chance in the marketplace. $185

Dog portraits in Watercolor and Acrylics
Tuesdays , August 17 and 24
6 – 9 pm  (Register for one or both sessions)
Learn techniques to create a portrait of your favorite pet from a photo. Planning, drawing and design of a portrait of a single dog by painting several small portraits and also discussing color, color theory, values and shapes will be covered in the first session. In the second session we will put it all together to create a larger portrait painting ready for framing.
$30/session (bring your own materials)

Matt Cutting and Framing Workshop
Tuesday, August 24
9:30 am  - 12:30 pm
Learn to cut single and double mats using a basic mat cutter, an intermediate mat cutter and a professional mat cutter. You will also learn how to use a wall mount media cutter. The secrets to straight bevels, crisp corners and perfect alignment for double mats will be discussed. There will be a demonstration covering the assembly to complete the framing job. After this class you will be able to decide what type of mat cutter fits your needs best. Note: Framing Studio Orientation is required to use the Framing Studio without an instructor present.
Session is $70 ($60 + $10 materials)

Framing Studio Orientation
Tuesday, August 31
9:30 am – 11:00 am OR 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm
Experienced with framing but want a professional space to do your work? ArtReach has a new Framing Studio available for personal use after orientation. Equipment specs are online. You will be informed of the procedures for using the studio including scheduling, material handling, fees for studio and supplies used, and safety. After orientation, use of the studio is $10 per hour.

We all have stories worth telling. We all want to tell them well. These four low-stress and fun sessions with master storyteller, Loren Niemi, will let you identify, explore the basics of where to begin, what point of view serves your purpose, how to shape narrative, accentuate humor, build suspense, make emotional connections, arrive at a satisfying ending and most of all, practice telling your stories.

Instructor: Loren Niemi is a masterful storyteller of philosophically engaging and emotionally nuanced tales, Fringe Festival performer and coach. He has taught Storytelling in the Theater program at Metro State University since 1991, as well as providing storytelling workshops around the country for individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations. Loren is the author of "The Book of Plots" (Llumina Press) and co-author with Elizabeth Ellis of the critically acclaimed, "Inviting the Wolf In: Thinking About Difficult Stories" (August House Publishers).

PAINTING WORKSHOP WITH MARY JO VAN DELL

Artists working in oils or acrylics are invited to bring works in progress or new ideas and a blank canvas for painting.  Mary Jo, an established artist and professional oil painter for 30 years will direct the class, instructing each participant individually.  You will be encouraged to develop and maintain your own painting style and personal growth as an artist.  Technique, color mixing, composition and other areas essential to mastering your own works will be taught.  This is an opportunity to foster your creative talent in a non-competitive and relaxed environment. Belle Ballet

Cheri Bell is the founder and director of
Belle Ballet. She brings to the classroom a passion for ballet and a love of teaching that has spanned over four decades. Ms. Bell continues to perform and to advance her teaching technique by observing professional teachers and dancers nationally and internationally. Classes include Preschool Ballet, Adult Ballet (Tea and Tendus) and Vaganova Russian Ballet Training (ages 5 and up). More advanced classes and pointe are offered as two or more day a week programs.
